Karin Hatwagner & Sophia Hatwagner ARCHIVE OF A DAY videoinstallation // die videoinstallation entsteht im kollaborativen zusammenspiel von vier generationen und untersucht transgenerationale ökologie von familie*. mutter und tochter erforschen gemeinsam mit urgroßmutter und enkelin jene zwischenräume, in denen wissen nicht erklärt, sondern weitergegeben wird: durch geste, berührung, nachahmung und zeit. hände, bewegungen und rituale erscheinen fragmentarisch. mothering wird dabei nicht als rolle verstanden, sondern als handlung und beziehung – als dis/kontinuum zwischen generationen. die Installation lädt ein, das zusammenspiel der vier generationen als etwas fluides, intimes und vielschichtiges wahrzunehmen.

Karin Hatwagner & Sophia Hatwagner ARCHIVE OF A DAY video installation // the video installation emerges from the collaborative interplay of four generations and investigates transgenerational ecologies of family*. mother and daughter explore together with great-grandmother and granddaughter those in-between spaces in which knowledge is not explained but passed on: through gesture, touch, imitation and time. hands, movements and rituals appear as fragmentary. mothering is understood here not as a role but as action and relation – as a dis/continuum between generations. the installation invites the viewer to perceive the interplay of four generations as something fluid, intimate and layered.

Connecting Spaces
(Changing Themes)

Karin Hatwagner’s installation, created for the Grey Room Studio, forms an arrangement that connects the presentation room with the space behind it, leading towards the garden, and with the space in front of it, opening towards the street, the Kriemhildplatz – and – moreover – the gallery ArtHunger, hosted by messing_link, which lies about an hour’s walk away.
Within the Grey Room Studio, fixed interconnected objects amount to a situation composed of items made of diverse materials – once discarded, now objects trouvés. Through changes in lightening, sound, and movement, the visitors are challenged to explore the installation. 
During the opening, the situation will be extended as the artist selects one item from the Grey Room installation and, accompanied by visitors, carries it on an approximately one-hour walk through the city towards the ArtHunger gallery. 
Upon reaching the gallery in the fourth district, Sankt-Elisabeth-Platz, Karin Hatwagner will install the object there. This is also where the opening of the exhibition will conclude at 9 p.m.
The immersive installation at the Grey Room Studio can be visited by appointment and will remain on view until the end of November.
